Back in 1970, a day after the death of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, a little known music event took place. Originally inspired by the Bath and West Showground’s Blues Festival, a gentleman named Michael Eavis started the now infamous festival. The first festival, including acts such as Marc Bolan, Al Stewart and Keith Christmas was held over a 2 day period, with an attendance of just 1,500. Much has changed since the festival began in 1970, where entry was just £1, entitling you to a free glass of milk from the farm.

Fast forward to 1990 and the attendance was 70,000 with tickets costing £38. Acts such as The Happy Mondays and The Cure performed.

Don't be a stick in the mud - get yourself to Glastonbury!

Roll on to 2004 and bands like Oasis graced the stage, as did Paul McCartney, Muse, Joss Stone, Franz Ferdinand and The Black Eyed Peas. The event cost £112 including programme and the attendance was 150,000 (officially).

This year (2009) Michael Eavis hailed the event as the “best Glastonbury ever”.

Just how word gets around!!!
